Where you measure from

It is most common for   interior shutters to be measured from inside the window opening  - commonly referred to as an inside mount. To measure for an inside mount measure between the side widow casings/jabs to the floor/sill to get the height

If there is not sufficient depth for the window covering or you want the covering to cover everything like trim work this is called an outside mount. For an outside mount measure from the outer edges of your sides or trim to obtain with and from the top of the trim to the floor/sill to get the height

For outside mounted window fixtures the window covering will require an additional piece of wood for hanging the window covering.This has to be mounted to a stud to insure it will be sufficient to hold the weight of your window fixture.

Window Depth

• Raised / Flat panel shutters - 1" depth Standard

• Fixed louver shutters - 1" depth.

• 1.3/8" Traditional style operable louver shutters - 1.1/4" depth.

• 2.3/8" California style louver shutters  - 1 3/4" depth

• 3.1/2" Plantation style louver shutters - 2. 3/8" depth

If the window treatment you require is larger then the depth of your window you will require an outside mount.
